Who we are

EMBERSWORN is made by Hire The Robots. This policy covers the Android app (com.hiretherobots.emberfall), the browser version at play.embersworn.com (also reachable at its older address, game.hiretherobots.com/emberfall), and the website embersworn.com. Questions: [email protected].

What the game sends

Three kinds of report, sent to our own server: from the Android app to game.hiretherobots.com, and from the browser version to the address you are playing at (play.embersworn.com or game.hiretherobots.com, which are the same server). The Android app always sends them over HTTPS (encrypted).

Crash reports

When the game hits an error. One per distinct error, at most 20 in a session.

• The error message and stack trace (the place in the game's code it came from).
• What the game was doing: the screen (title, camp or dungeon), the area and floor, whether it was paused, your class, your hero's level and how many errors came before.
• If the game failed to start: which of its files were still loading, and its last loading steps.

Performance reports

About once per 90 seconds of play.

• Frame rate, the share of slow frames, the slowest frames and what the game was doing during them (for example, loading a model).
• Your graphics settings and what adaptive quality changed.
• Screen size, pixel density, the size the game draws at, and whether it's a phone or tablet.
• The area, floor and class, how many enemies and allies were about, which guardian you were fighting, and how long the game had been open.

Stuck reports

When the game rescues itself from a screen you couldn't leave, or you use STUCK?. At most 12 in a session.

• Which windows were open and the labels on their buttons, whether the game was paused, the screen size and how many fingers were on the screen.
• The title of the open menu. In the pause menu that title is the name you gave your hero, so the game replaces your hero's name with "(hero)" everywhere in the report before it is sent. The name never leaves your device.
• Your class and hero level.

In every report

• The game's build number, the time, and whether it's the Android app.
• Your browser's "user agent": the browser or Android System WebView version, the operating system version and, in the Android app, the device model and its system build number.

What it never sends

Your name, email or any account (there are none), advertising ID, device ID, install ID or session ID, cookies, your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone, or your saves. The game shows no ads, and its own code contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code from anyone else. (Web pages get a visit counter from Cloudflare: see Web pages.)

IP addresses. Our server does not record your IP address. The site runs through Cloudflare, our network provider, which sees the IP address of every connection in order to deliver it, as any network does. Cloudflare's handling is covered by its privacy policy.

Web pages

The website embersworn.com and the pages of the browser version are delivered by Cloudflare, which counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics: which page was opened, the site you came from, your browser and device type, your country, and how quickly the page loaded. It sets no cookies, does not follow you to other sites, and is not used for advertising. The Android app does not include it.

The website itself sets no cookies and has no other analytics, advertising or tracking code.

Launch updates

If you ask for launch updates on embersworn.com, we keep the email address you give us, when you gave it, and which of the page's two sign-up forms you used. We use it only to email you when EMBERSWORN launches and, now and then, with news about the game.

The list is kept on a computer run by Hire The Robots. If that computer can't be reached when you sign up, your address is sent to us in a private Telegram message instead, so that it isn't lost. We don't sell or share the list, and we don't use it for anything else.

Every email we send will say how to stop them. You can also write to [email protected] at any time and we'll delete your address.

Where reports go, and for how long

Reports are written to a log file on a computer run by Hire The Robots. We use them only to find and fix crashes, freezes and slowdowns. We don't sell them, share them with anyone, or use them for advertising.

Nothing deletes reports automatically yet. Each log stops accepting new reports once it reaches 5 MB, and we delete reports when we no longer need them to fix a problem.

On your device

Your heroes, gear, progress and settings are saved in the app's own storage on your device (browser localStorage). They are never uploaded. The device also keeps a copy of its last 12 crash reports and last 12 stuck reports there.

Uninstalling the app, or clearing its data, deletes all of it. If Android backup is switched on, Android may copy the app's data to your own Google account backup. That copy is between you and Google, and we can't see it.

The story films are streamed from our server when they play (in the Android app from game.hiretherobots.com, in a browser from the address you are playing at). That is an ordinary download and nothing is recorded about it.

Your choices

• Offline play. With no connection, nothing is sent. Reports that can't be sent are not saved up to send later.
• Deleting reports. Reports carry no name or ID, so we can't find yours from an email address alone. Write to [email protected] with your device model, and roughly when you played, and we'll delete the reports that match.

Children

EMBERSWORN is a dark-fantasy combat game made for players aged 13 and over. It is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes

If what the game sends changes, this page will change with it, and the date at the top will say when.
